The photographs of Mary Macpherson – with a dash of poetry

Walking into a book launch ….

Went to the launch of Lucien Rizos’s A Man Walks Out of a Bar … New Zealand Photographs, 1979 – 1982 in Unity Books, Wellington, last night. A warm occasion where Lucien paid tribute to what New Zealand had meant to his immigrant family and the many people who’d helped him get his book into the world. This Robert Frank inspired collection is a gritty time capsule of what New Zealand felt like in the late ’70s. Lucien possibly qualifies for the first photographic award of ‘Knitwear Poet’ (think big jerseys and cable stitch).

The book was published by Rim Books, a specialist Auckland publisher of art books and catalogues.
